HC Seeks Centre, TS, AP Reply to PIL on Irrigation Projects

HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday directed Centre and state governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to submit their arguments with regard to a PIL that complained the loss of crops spanning several acres due to water inundation caused by the construction of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation and Polavaram projects.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice T. Vinod Kumar issued notices to several authorities, including the secretary of the Union ministry for home affairs, secretary of the ministry for environment, forest and climate change, ministry of Jalshakti Sram, member-secretary of the National Disaster Management Authority, Chief Secretary to the Government of Telangana state and Chief Secretary to the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

The PIL was filed by Prof. M. Kodanda Ram Reddy, president of Telangana Jana Samithi and was originally brought before the Supreme Court. After hearing petitioner's counsel, the SC directed the petitioner to approach the Telangana High Court, which led to the current proceedings.
