Pondicherry University withholds students' body poll results
Puducherry: Pondicherry University withheld results of university's student-council elections held on Saturday.
A circular from Chief Election Officer K. Sreenivas said the students' council election results for the year 2016-17 are kept in abeyance until further orders.
Pondicherry University follows a parliamentary mode of election where elected representatives of different schools of the university and its campuses in Mahe, Karaikal, and Port Blair will elect the office-bearers.
The election was held at 10 am on Saturday and results were announced by 5 pm. But immediately after that a circular results appeared on the university's website.
As per the results announced SFI-Ambedkar Students Union (ASA) alliance had won 10 out of 11 major seats in the poll. But complaints were registered against the winning presidential candidate of SFI-ASA alliance questioning his eligibility to contest the elections and this is the reason to withdraw the results, sources said.
Admitting that complaints were registered against some candidate regarding their eligibility, assistant registrar M. Vallathan said a meeting will be held with all stakeholders and the results will be announced on Monday.
