AP caste census will include facial, iris, fingerprint data

Vijayawada: Village and Ward Secretariat department additional director Dhyana Chandra said AP government has started conducting a caste census in Andhra Pradesh on a pilot project basis in five secretariats, one each in Srikakulam, Dr. Ambedkar Konaseema, NTR, Nellore and YSR districts.

Holding a review meeting on Caste Enumeration Pilot Survey on Wednesday in Vijayawada, Dhyana Chandra said the survey will be conducted in a transparent manner. He said different types of questions for collecting comprehensive information about castes have been drafted. Facilities are also being provided to surveyors to collect facial, iris and fingerprint details, among others, as part of e-KYC registration.

MROs, MPDOs and district supervisors of the select five secretariats participated in the meeting in Vijayawada. They suggested some changes and additions in the already designed survey format.

The additional director asked officials to be completely transparent about the caste survey while asking questions and collecting data.

Tribal Welfare department director J.V. Murali and Digital Services in-charge at Village and Ward Secretariat Ram Nath Reddy were among those who participated in the meeting.
