Rs 6.2 Crore Cash Seized from Two Cars in City
HYDERABAD: Police checks yielded Rs 6.2 crore cash that was not supported by documents in two instances in the city police said on Thursday.
In the first instance, Madhapur special operations team (SOT) seized Rs 5 crore from a car. Officials from the Kondapur Botanical Road noticed some individuals transporting cash in a car. Suspecting unusual activity, the police conducted a thorough check and found the money being carried in two suitcases inside the car.
The seized cash reportedly belonged to a trader. It has been handed over to income-tax officials, said Gachibowli inspector Jemes Babu.
In another incident, during their vehicle checks, Nacharam police on Thursday seized Rs 1.2 crore unaccounted cash from a white car (TS 08 FY8796) at Nacharam crossroads.
The car was heading towards Bhongir district when it was intercepted, police said. The driver and a passenger were taken into custody for further questioning. The seized amount will be handed over to EC and IT department if relevant documents are not produced, a police officer said.
