Educate and encourage everyone to register to vote: Election Commission
Vijayawada: Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Dharmendra Sharma has urged all to exercise their voting rights stressed that an error-free voters list is of paramount importance.
A review on the special summary revision of voters List (SSR)-2024 and general election preparation activities was done by Sharma at a meeting here on Friday.
He said it was important to educate and encourage every eligible person to vote in the elections. After examining the polling percentages of the past at the constituency and booth levels where it was low, the reasons should be studied and necessary steps taken to increase the polling percentage, he told the officials.
Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programmes would be undertaken in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission. A comprehensive and robust election management plan (EMP) is required to complete the election process smoothly, he said.
Sharma said that at present, IT platforms are important in the preparation of voters list and election management. Officers and staff must be aware of ESMS, Suvidha, Encore, C Whistle, ETPBMS, Voter Turnout, Counting Votes apps.
Training programmes would be conducted for the polling staff.
State chief electoral officer Mukesh Meena said special summary revision of electoral roll-2024 in the state is being done in a transparent manner. A large number of applications have been received for inclusion of names. He said issues are being resolved.
He said that since the publication of the final list on Jan 5 this year, around 90 lakh applications have been received. Of these, 89 lakh applications have been resolved. He said that the remaining applications will be attended to by Dec 26.
District collectors gave a powerpoint presentation on SSR-2024 and general election preparation activities, while SPs explained the law and order issues vis-à-vis the 2024 polls.
