AP among top ten states in State Energy Efficiency Index-2020
VIJAYAWADA: AP has been included among top ten states in the State Energy Efficiency Index-2020. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has expressed its appreciation of AP and Kerala for implementation of energy efficiency steps through standalone SDAs/exclusive organisations.
The BEE released the Index prepared by the Alliance of Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE) on Sunday. It listed Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu as the states that have done effective implementation of energy efficienct activities.
AP is one of the proactive states in implementation of Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency measures and holding public awareness programmes. The innovative IoT-based demonstration project implemented in MSMEs has won recognition in the state and it was replicated in 65 MSME units in AP.
In a webinar with all state designated agencies(SDAs) of governments including Andhra Pradesh, BEE director general Abhay Bhakre said BEE has set an ambitious goal to save 129 million tonne of oil equivalent (mtoe) across various sectors for the next decade. It would prepare a comprehensive action plan and mechanism to reach out to the public/stakeholders.
Bhakre said the BEE is also looking at advising other states in the country to follow the model from Andhra Pradesh and Kerala for effective implementation of energy-efficient and energy conservation programmes by establishing a standalone/ dedicated agencies to fully focus on the cause of energy efficiency.
He said BEE’s efforts in recent years have yielded tangible results, meaning an energy savings of around Rs 40,945 crore. BEE’s goal is of 129 million MTOE savings in a decade and India’s target is to achieve net zero emissions by 2070.
