HC directs authorities to prevent land grabbing in Kukatpally village

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Saturday directed the GHMC commissioner, Medchal-Malkajiri collector and Kukatpally’s GHMC zonal commissioner to take stringent steps against those trying to grab 87,555.60 square yards of land and open spaces in Kukatpally village. The court directed the respondent authorities to file a report by July 27.

A division bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji was dealing with a PIL over the land-grab attempts in Survey No.s 912P, 913P, 941P, 944P, 945 to 962 and 964P under Phase-XV of Balanagar in Balanagar mandal.

U. Siva Prasad, who filed the petition for Community Organisation of People’s Emancipation, sought directions to authorities to ensure there was no illegal construction, as many persons were trying to encroach land under the guise of building temples.

Jayakrishna, counsel representing K. Ravinder Reddy, standing counsel for GHMC, submitted to the court that the corporation was taking steps to protect the land. Counsel for the petitioner countered by saying the GHMC’s action was insufficient as attempts were still being made to grab the land
