HYDERABAD: With heavy rains lashed catchment areas in Maharashtra and in several parts of the state on Monday, irrigation projects in the Godavari basin received good inflows when compared with projects in Krishna basin. However, the Karnataka catchment areas of the Krishna are receiving torrential downpours and it is expected that more water will be received in the river.

The Sriramsagar Project (SRSP) received inflows of 19,722 cusecs due to heavy rains in upstream Maharashtra. With this, the project's storage has increased to 63.19 tmc ft (thousand million cubic feet) against a gross capacity of 90.3 tmc ft.
Yellampally project received 89,092 cusecs, forcing officials to lift the gates and release 88,764 cusecs of water downstream.

The Medigadda barrage, which is part of the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme (KLIS), received even higher inflows of 5.56 lakh cusecs. Officials lifted all the gates to release all of the water downstream.
