Jains begin their eight-day Paryushan Mahaparva celebrations
Hyderabad: The city's Jain community will observe 'Paryushan Mahaparva,' an eight-day fasting period described as a purification process, from Wednesday.
Special prayers will be held all Jain temples during this period; there are approximately 20 Jain temples in the city where the priests will deliver the discourses. Some members of the Jain community fast for eight days, while others fast for a month. During this time, a few Jain women fast for 31 days, only drinking water during the day and devoting the rest of their time to religious activities.
On this occasion, Jainism followers will hope to seek forgiveness for their sins, forgive those who have misunderstood them, and strive for spiritual goals.
" I will be fasting all eight days and will visit Swethamber Jain Mandir in Sultan Bazaar. During this period, our entire family will participate in chanting and Aaradhana,” Chanda Devi Bagrecha Jain said.
Joint secretary of Sri Jain Shwetambar Parshwanath Temple, Charkama in Charminar, said, “All the Jain temples have been decorated. Several Jain monks have already arrived for discourses that. Temples will have pujas and pravachan (discourses). There are more than 60,000 Jains in the city who are expected to participate in all the eight days," he added.
