Aged Lioness Maheswari Passes Away at Visakhapatnam Zoo
Visakhapatnam: Lioness Maheswari, aged 18 years, died at midnight hours on Saturday, said a release issued by Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, Visakhapatnam on Sunday.
Maheswari was born in 2006 and brought to the Vizag Zoo from Sakkarbaug Zoo, Gujarat in 2019. The cause of death as per the post-mortem report submitted by the veterinary assistant surgeon, at Indira Gandhi Zoological Park was due to severe myocardial infarction due to senility.
The average lifespan of a lion in the wild is around 16-18 years. The lioness Maheshwari was in her 19th year and has contributed to the cause of conservation and helped educate millions of people about the Asiatic lions by her presence in the Sakkarbaug and Vizag zoos. She has been celebrated throughout her life and the team of IGZP is ever grateful to her, the release added.
