Villagers downstream Medigadda barrage spend sleepless nights

Police security is tightened at the Medigadda barrage and not allowing the vehicles into the bridge

MANTHANI (BHUPALAPALLY): Thousands of people in the villages located downstream of Medigadda barrage are experiencing sleepless nights after the pillars of a bridge sunk by 0.6 meters in the Manthani Assembly Constituency in Jayashankar Bhupalapalli district.

The incident created panic among the local people and many people were engaged in discussions in the villages for the last two days over possible threats to the villages located downstream if anything goes wrong in the future.

Peddampeta, Lenkalagdda, Parikena, Palimela, Sarvaipeta, Bhurguddem, Dammuru, Neelampelli, and Mukunuru villages in Palimela mandal are located in downstream of Medigadda barrage.

Villager Naram Rambabu of Ambatipalli said ‘all the villages located downstream of Medigadda barrage are with fear that they could be ‘swallowed’ in one go
(Gramalanni barrage Notlo Unnay) by a Medigadda barrage if anything goes wrong in future.

The villagers are scared of disaster if anything goes wrong in the future and they are raising doubts over the safety of the Medigadda barrage.

People of surrounding villages are raising doubts over the safety of the barrage and raising doubts about the quality of the construction works of the barrage.

At present, police security is tightened at the Medigadda barrage and not allowing the vehicles into the bridge. The road connectivity affected between the people of either side of Maharashtra and Telangana through this bridge.

Paluguri Poshaiah of Pankena village of Mahadevpur mandal said they have been experiencing sleepless nights since the incident of the sinking of a few pillars of the Medigadda bridge came to light.
