BJP urges govt to restore 26 castes in BCs list in Telangana

HYDERABAD: BJP OBC morcha national president K. Laxman urged for restoring 26 communities that were deleted from the Backward Classes (BC) list in the state.

Accompanied by MLC P.V.N. Madhav, the party’s Andhra Pradesh delegation and caste elders, the Rajya Sabha member submitted a memorandum to Governor Tamilsai Soundarajan here on Thursday.

Laxman said that the most backward classes from various parts of the undivided Andhra Pradesh, especially from Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts, had settled in Hyderabad several decades back. However, after the formation of Telangana they were removed from the BCs list.

He said that many of them were aborigine tribes, denotified tribes and landless poor. He alleged that without conducting any survey on the economic and social status of the 26 communities, the Telangana government, with biased intentions, had unconstitutionally deleted them from the BCs list.

As a result, people from the 26 castes were being denied benefits under fee reimbursement and employment segments for the last eight years, he said. He urged the Governor to direct Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to ensure that these castes are included in the state’s BCs list.
