Vijayawada: Five new Covid-19 positive cases have been reported across Andhra Pradesh in the past 24 hours.
With the already existing 18 active Covid instances, the total number of positive cases has risen to 23 in AP
Blood samples of all the 23 infected persons have been sent to Vijayawada for genome sequencing to ascertain if any of them is the JN 1 variant.
Among the 23 cases, two persons suffering from non-communicable diseases have been hospitalised as a precautionary measure. They are a 51-year-old person suffering from thyroid disease a 76 years old was afflicted with lung Cancer. Both are under observation. The other positive cases are of mild nature. The affected are under home isolation.
Health director Dr. K. Padmavathi said of the five new cases, two are from Visakhapatnam while one each is from Guntur, Kakinada and Krishna districts.
Health officials have appealed to people to be cautious and wear masks while in public and crowded areas.
