Vizag CAT topper gets 100 percentile sans coaching

Visakhapatnam: Twenty-year-old Kumar Sai Vishnu recently graduated in BSc Statistics from a private college in Visakhapatnam. Of the 14 students who scored 100 percentile in CAT 2023, only three are with non-engineering background. One of them is Sai Vishnu.

Unlike many CAT toppers, Sai Vishnu had not enrolled in any coaching classes to prepare for the Indian Institute of Management entrance exam. He decided to appear for CAT in July 2022. He started preparing by going through previous year's question papers. In CAT 2022, he scored 95.6 percentile.

Sai Vishnu followed the same strategy in CAT 2023 and scored 100 percentile. Now he is confident of getting admission in a top IIM, Ahmedabad, Bangalore or Calcutta.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Sai Vishnu said, “My family never tried to impose their dreams on me. They knew that I would not fulfil it. It is my dream that has been realised.”

He said he read at least one article every morning on the internet, which is related to some topic of the CAT syllabus. This helped him stay updated. “I study for 3–4 hours in a day. I believe in quality of time than quantity. It is essential to upskill oneself. That is something that not only helps you clear the exam, but adds to your intelligence quotient,” Said Vishnu explained.

He underlined that for verbal ability and reading comprehension, he read articles and journals online.

His sister is studying at IIM Sirmaur in Himachal Pradesh. Vishnu got to know about CAT through her.

When asked about his future goals, Sai Vishnu said, “I may found a start-up. That way, I can succeed in providing jobs. But life is unpredictable. I am at the beginning of a step. I would like to enjoy my current journey.”
