LDF under constant evaluation: Sitaram Yechury
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury has made it clear that the LDF government needs to get down to serious business of delivering on the promises made to people during the Assembly elections. With the state government mired in a number of controversies during its 10 months in office, the central leadership is not quite happy with the way things are unfolding. The serious lapses on law and order front, growing attacks on women and children and weaker sections of society are also a cause of concern.
“As far as I am concerned, I can only assure you that the CPM my party will neither find scapegoats nor excuses to cover up any lapses. If lapses are there our efforts will be to genuinely overcome, correct them and deliver the promises that were made to the people,” he said. Mr Yechury clarified that the functioning of the government would be subjected to constant monitoring and evaluation. “We will remain faithful to the people who have voted us on the basis of these promises. If at all there are lapses, those are being corrected.
“Please remember that the IPS and IAS are central officers. You have a Central government which is completely antagonistic towards the LDF government. So many factors are in play so please keep that in mind,” he said. Mr Yechury maintained that as far as the promises made to the people of Kerala in the LDF manifesto, the government was proceeding on the right track. Some initiatives have been taken to fulfil these promises. On the E P Jayarajan issue he said the next central committee meeting will take a decision.
