Malaria cases went down in TS in last nine years
Hyderabad: The government released a report on Monday, ahead of World Malaria Day which is observed on April 25, that malaria cases had come down to 611 in 2022 from 5,222 in 2014.
It said several districts had recorded zero cases last year: Jagtial, Kamareddy, Medak, Nagarkurnool, Narayanapet, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Wanaparthy and Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri.
The highest number of cases was recorded in Kothagudem, Mulugu, Asifabad, Bhupalpally, Warangal, Hanamkonda and Mahbubabad.
The report said the government has implemented indoor residual spray (IRS) before the malaria season begins. In addition, it distributed 7.5 lakh mosquito nets in high-risk districts. Medical camps and awareness programmes were conducted to curb the disease.
The theme for this year is “Time to deliver zero malaria: invest, innovate, implement,” which emphasises the need for investment in innovations to prevent the spread of the disease. Malaria is transmitted by the female anopheles.
India registered about 1,73,000 cases in 2022.
