52-year-old dies by suicide in Hanamkonda over police harassment
WARANGAL: A 52-year-old man died by suicide on Thursday due to alleged police harassment, after traffic cops seized his vehicle over unpaid challans in Hanamkonda.
The man was identified as Palakurthy Mogili, a native of Mallareddypalli village in Hasanparthy mandal, who used to work at a cloth store in Hanamkonda.
Mogili was returning home after work on May 21, when he was stopped by the traffic police who found 15 challans were pending against the motorbike number. The police then seized the vehicle and shifted it to the police station.
According to Mogili’s family, the police then started pressurising Mogili to clear the dues, even as Mogili requested them for some time but in vain. They alleged that Mogili took extreme steps due to police harassment.
He was admitted to MGM Hospital on Wednesday, where he died. Mogili’s family members, carrying his body, lodged a police complaint and staged a protest to seek action against the traffic police involved in the matter.
