HC Directed Excise & Prohibition Officers Against Adulterated Toddy Sellers
HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court directed the excise department and Jogulamba Gadwal district prohibition and excise officer to take complete the proceedings against the Toddy Tappers Cooperative Group of Gadwal for being caught twice selling toddy adulterated with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS).
The High Court had twice directed the authorities to initiate proceedings against the group but the government had not taken action while considering an application of the cooperative. Challenging this, R. Venkatesh Goud, a toddy tapper, approached the High Court.
Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy of the Telangana High Court said he was perplexed at how the excise authorities had not initiated proceedings against the sellers who had been caught red-handed, twice before. The court directed all the authorities to file their response by June 27.
