Medical staff gave treatment to dead body: IIIT Basar students

ADILABAD: Leaders of the Student Governing Council of the RGUKT alleged that the doctors at the dispensary in IIIT Basar “provided treatment” to the body of Suresh Rathod, who died by suicide on Tuesday, to give an impression that they tried to save him. Suresh was a native of Dichpalli Thanda of Nizamabad and was a first year engineering student. Suresh was alone in the room and told his friends that he did not feel like going to the class.

The student leaders alleged that the duty doctor and medical staff at the dispensary had created a scene as if Suresh was alive after attempting suicide and they were trying to save him. According to the police, the incident took place at 12.30 pm.

The council leaders said when Suresh’s friends broke open the hostel room, they found Suresh at about 1.25 pm and noticed that his body was cold and there was no pulse. The students called an ambulance but it arrived only at 2.10 pm, the students claimed. Subsequently, Suresh was taken to the dispensary on the campus.

The medical staff allegedly made the students wait outside for 45 minutes at the dispensary. The students claimed that the medical staff told them that they had done ECG and Suresh’s condition was critical. “But the medical staff treating Suresh did not even print the ECG report,” the student leaders said and added that this had raised many doubts about the staff’s claims that Suresh was alive.

The medical staff allegedly told the students that Suresh was alive and administered saline and that they would take Suresh in an ambulance to Nizamabad for better treatment. But, no doctor accompanied Suresh while being shifted for better treatment and the ambulance went towards Nirmal. Nirmal SP Praveen Kumar said Suresh took the extreme step due to personal reasons and appealed to the students of IIIT Basar not to take extreme steps and focus on their studies.

It is said that police seized Suresh’s cell phone and went through the messages and his chatting data as part of their investigation to reach their conclusion. The police registered cases against five students in connection with breaking window panes of the police vehicle and the disciplinary committee of IIIT Basar discussed the issue and is likely to take action against the accused.

The students alleged that those cases were false and they were not at the scene of offense while the authorities cancelled the out-passes of these five students to see that they will not leave the campus.
