Rotten food served in Telangana\'s tribal school; 450 students take out protest rally
Khammam: Alleging that they were being served rotten food and fearing a major health hazard, about 450 students of Girijan Residential School in Madhiripuram took out a protest rally on the national highway to Thirumalayapalem mandal headquarters on Wednesday.
The students said that they had taken to the streets to highlight the condition of the food served to them, and that the officials had not responded to their complaints.
Some officials, who learnt of the rally on a national highway, rushed to the spot and assured the students that their concerns would be redressed. Police officials cautioned the students that a rally on a national highway posed a threat to them.
The students then walked back to the school. Mandal revenue officer Pullaiah and sub-inspector Srinivas reached the school immediately.
N. Sankar, a student, said they had approached the principal with regard to the unhealthy food but to no avail. He said that no official was taking responsibility for serving only healthy food to them.
K. Sunita, a parent, said that their children often complained of stomach-ache after consuming the insect-ridden food.
Tribal welfare department’s deputy director Krishna Naik visited the school and took note of the problems faced by students.
