VIJAYAWADA: AP Telugu and Sanskrit Academy chairperson Nandamuri Lakshmi Parvathi, spouse of late N.T. Rama Rao on Friday complained to President Droupadi Murmu and union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman for not being extended an invitation to attend the function in which ₹100 coin of NTR will be released in New Delhi on August 28.
In her complaint, Lakshmi Parvathi underlined that as NTR's wife, she has a right to attend the coin release event. She asked the President of India to intervene immediately.
The ₹100 coin is scheduled to be released at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi, with President Droupadi Murmu leading the ceremony.
The central government has extended invitations to all members of NTR’s family, including Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Daggubati Purandeswari, Nandamuri Balakrishna and Jr. NTR. As such, Lakshmi Parvati’s stance on absence of invitation to her leads to a suspense.
Lakshmi Parvathi said in her complaint: “I am extremely pleased and would like to extend my personal congratulations to the union government for releasing a ₹100 coin in the name of Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao in recognition of his contributions to Indian society. In this context, I would like to bring to your attention that I married late N.T. Rama Rao on September 11, 1993. Together, we led a peaceful family life and actively participated in the AP State Legislature election in 1994. Under our leadership, the Telugu Desam Party secured 226 assembly seats out of 294. However, due to a conspiracy orchestrated by his elder son-in- law (Nara Chandrababu Naidu) in collusion with other family members, power was acquired (by Naidu) through backdoor methods. This unfortunate turn of events caused deep depression within NTR. Tragically, he passed away on January 18, 1996.”
She went on to say that ironically, the very family members responsible for NTR’s demise are now invited to the prestigious function of releasing the ₹100 coin in his memory. “But his legitimate heir and family of his wife, namely myself (Nandamuri Lakshmi Parvathi), have been overlooked. As a single woman, I wish to express my profound dissatisfaction with the authorities responsible for this oversight.”
Lakshmi Parvathi sought that the Rashtrapati issue instructions to relevant authorities to include her name in the guest list for the upcoming coin release function on Monday, August 28.
The centre had minted the ₹100 coin with the face of NTR for his centenary celebrations. The coin has a diameter of 44 mm and has 50 per cent silver, 40 percent copper, 5 percent nickel and 5 percent zinc. On one side of the coin are the Three Lions and Ashoka Chakra. The other side displays a picture of NTR along with text "Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Satha Jayanthi". The coin will be marked with years 1923–2023 to commemorate NTR's birth centenary.
