Two tuskers stray into agri field, get electrocuted near Shivamogga
BENGALURU: Carcasses of two tuskers were discovered in a jowar field at Chennahalli falling under Ayanoor range of Shivamogga on Sunday and electrocution is suspected to be the cause of the death of the tuskers. Forest officials estimated the age of the tuskers to be 20 and 28 years.
According to forest officials, a farmer Chandra Naik is said to have drawn power supply to his fence to guard his crops against frequent raids by wild boars. Two tuskers strayed into his fields to graze on the jowar crop and came into contact with the live wire in the dark leading to their death.
Forest officials have taken Chandra Naik into their custody. A case has been registered. Investigations are on.
