Vellore: Members of the public and relatives of Dinesh, a fourth standard boy of a private Matriculation school near Vaniyambadi in Vellore district, who tragically died after being crushed under the wheel of the school van when he was about to get into it to go it near his residence at Chinna Mottur Koothandakuppam, “captured” the van and staged a protest against the alleged "negligence" of the school bus driver and conductor.
The driver, Murugesan, allegedly drove away the vehicle even as the boy was getting into the school bus leading to the tragedy. People of the area retrieved the boy with serious injuries from under the wheels of the school van and rushed him to the Vaniyambadi government hospital, where Dinesh, son of an egg merchant, passed away without responding to treatment.
As the crowd got restive with the school authorities allegedly not even reaching the scene of the tragedy even two hours after it occurred, Jolarpettai police rushed to the spot, held talks with the protesting public and took the vehicle to the police station. Police also arrested the van driver Murugesan after which the highly sorrow-stricken locals dispersed from the place.
