HC Issues Notices to Telangana Government on Non-Implementation of NEP
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has issued notices to the Telangana government over alleged inaction by the government to implement the National Education Policy 2020 to cover the students aged between four and six years to reduce dropout rates.
Responding to a petition filed by a few diploma holders in pre-school
education (DPSE), the court directed the government to submit its response
to the petition, which complained that they were being ill-treated in
filling up the teacher posts.
The petitioners argued that while issuing notification for the direct
recruitment to the posts of teachers as per G.O.Ms.No. 25 by the school
education department, dated 5-9-2023, the government had not earmarked the
posts for the diploma holders, while the National Educational Policy
prescribed guaranteed posts to them.
The petition also stated that the state government has not taken any steps
to impart education to children in the age group of four to six years and in
the Anganwadi centres.
The petitioners also submitted that around 26,000 schools are run by the
government and in those schools nearly 23 lakh students were admitted, but
the children aged between four to six years were not covered by them. The
petitioner claims that the Telangana government did not open pre-primary
schools in the state, while several other states have begun imparting
education by covering this age group based on the Compulsory Education Act.
