Karnataka Farmers Caution Kodangal people Against Fake Congress Promises

Hyderabad: A group of farmers from Karnataka mounted a guerilla operation on Wednesday in Kodangal, the constituency from where Telangana state Congress president A. Revanth Reddy is to contest the coming Assembly elections, protesting against how the Congress government had failed to keep its promises in their state.

The farmers went around Kodangal town shouting slogans against the Congress party and warned people against believing its promises. They said the Congress, which could not keep its guarantees in Karnataka, will do the same in Telangana state if voted to power.

A farmer from Kalburgi district said that the six guarantees given by the Congress are not being kept, whether it was free bus passes for women or Rs 2,000 for women under the Gruhalakshmi scheme.

“We are here to tell the people not to vote for the Congress. There it promised Rs 2,000 under Gruhalakshmi, and here they say they will give Rs 2,500. They will not keep any promises and we don’t want the people of Telangana to be fooled by Congress like we have been deceived,” he said.

The protest march through the town was objected to by local Congress leaders, who said people from another state had no business to come and stage a protest here. When the two groups came face to face, the police dispersed them and took several Congress workers into custody.
