Tribal students in Kotagiri exposed to calligraphy
Ooty: Tribal students in the Nilgiris were trained in good handwriting skills on the commemoration of World Handwriting Day.
Leo Fernandes, a famed name in handwriting and calligraphy teaching in the state and founder of the School of Handwriting and Calligraphy at Coonoor near here, held the training camp for tribal students at the Victoria Armstrong Memorial Nursery and Primary School (VAMS) run by the Nilgiris Adivasi Welfare Association in Kotagiri near here.
Leo Fernandes said that the commemoration of World Handwriting Day gives a chance to all people to re-explore the purity and power of good handwriting. He began by teaching the students the correct formation of alphabets from A to Z, with proper strokes in four-line notebooks. He emphasized that good handwriting has various benefits, and it helped students score good marks in the exams. As it also reveals a person’s character, he mentioned that every individual has to take extra time and effort in improving and correcting their handwriting.
“Handwriting allows a person to be an artist. In the cyber-era, when use of computers rule the roost, the fonts are the same, no matter what computer one uses or how one uses it. Fonts lack a personal touch. But handwriting adds intimacy to a letter and kindles interests in creativity. Good handwriting always wins the hearts of others,” he said.
Poovizhi Sivakumar, principal of VAM School, said that the event gave tribal students a good opportunity to learn the nuances of calligraphy.
