TSPCB speeds up process for hydroxychloroquine units
Hyderabad: In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) has announced expediting of permits to bulk-drug manufacturers involved in the manufacture of hydroxychloroquine.
According to senior officials, TSPCB has to issue consent for stabilising and operating industries under Section 25 and 26 of the Water Act, 1974, and Section 21 of the Air Act, 1981.
“As part of a comprehensive system to handle the coronavirus epidemic, production of life-saving drugs like hydroxychloroquine or its intermediates is to be ensured, with the central government now permitting these drugs in a bid to control the outbreak,” a board official said.
As some bulk drug manufacturers are coming forward to manufacture hydroxychloroquine, “The TSPCB deems it necessary to expedite the process of issuing consent and permission to industries that wish to manufacture the drug,” the official stated.
Manufacturing units will have to submit their proposal to the board putting forth their pollution load statement, material balance for the proposed product and certificate of the environmental auditor. Proposals submitted will be processed on priority basis and clearances issued expeditiously, the TSPCB official added.
