1,396 SCs, STs to get lands in Kakinada district
Kakinada: Kakinada district collector Krithika Shukla said in accordance with the decision taken by an assigned committee led by district in-charge minister, about 1,500 acres of land will be distributed soon to 1,396 beneficiaries of the district belonging to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.
Presiding over the district-level SC, ST Vigilance and Monitoring Committee here on Tuesday, she further said seven social welfare hostels are being developed at a cost of ₹3.60 crore. District Mining Welfare Foundation has released ₹60 lakh each to the boys’ hostel at Kathipudi and girls hostel at Tuni. The Jagannaickpur social welfare hostel is being built with CSR funds of ₹60 lakh.
The collector said ₹1 crore have been sanctioned under MPLADS to Balaji Cheruvu Social Welfare Hostel at Kakinada. Special attention is being paid with regard to education and health of students.
Krithika Shukla pointed out that under the SC, ST Atrocities Prevention Act, victims have been paid ₹3.17 crore so far since 2020.
Speaking at the meeting, Kakinada superintendent of police S. Sathish Kumar said 39 cases have been booked in the district under the SC, ST Act since 2013. Steps are being undertaken to complete investigations soon. He said 11 persons have been arrested in Srungavruksham incident, which is being probed by CID.
Addressing the meeting as chief guest, Kakinada MP Vanga Githa said 80 percent of the ESI building works, taken up at a cost of ₹100 crore, have been completed.
SC, ST Monitoring Committee members Dokuburra Bhadram, Dr. Moka Pavan Kumar, Bandi Veeralingeswara Rao, G. Trinadha Dev, Pilli Jyothi, MLC Chikkala Ramachandra Rao and district revenue officer Sridhar Reddy were among those present.
Social Welfare joint director J. Ranga Lakhmi Devi submitted a report on welfare of SCs and STs.
