Depts start shifting to Secretariat building ahead of April 30 inauguration

Hyderabad: Government departments have started picking up the pace in shifting files and office equipment from the BRKR Bhavan and other offices to the Secretariat complex, with the deadline of April 29 looming closer.

The Secretariat will be functional from May 1, after Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao inaugurates it on April 30.

The Chief Minister will occupy the sixth floor of the building and sign files between 1.58 pm and 2.04 pm on the day, officials said. Ministers and officials have also been asked to follow suit.

After the files are signed, ministers, officers and staff will be addressed by the Chief Minister at 2.15 pm, which will be followed by a lunch.

Further, departments have been directed not to shift any of their furniture, as new uniform furniture will be provided at the Secretariat complex, officials said.

  • The offices of the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary are located on the sixth floor.
  • Each floor will house three offices; revenue on the ground floor, home first floor and finance third floor.
  • Agriculture and SC Development will be located on the third floor, the irrigation and law on the fourth floor, general administration fifth floor.
  • The Secretariat, named after Dr B.R. Ambedkar, has a built-up area of 7 lakh square feet and cost Rs 650 crore.
  • The complex has two massive domes, with the national emblem atop one of them. The height of the building is 278 feet.
  • The building follows Indian Green Building Council norms, and meets stipulations of fire safety, disaster management and other departments concerned.
  • The design reflects the Deccan-Kakatiya architecture and culture.
