MCT seeks citizens' participation for top rank in Swachh Survekshan
Tirupati: Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) commissioner D. Haritha requested citizens’ participation and the collaborative efforts of municipal officials and workers for the corporation to aim for top rank and enhance its performance in this year's Swachh Survekshan rankings.
Addressing a special review meeting with the civic officials at the municipal corporation office here on Tuesday, the commissioner stated that by sensitising citizens and the collective efforts of civic officials, the municipal corporation will
prepare Tirupati city as per Swachh Survekshan norms and achieve top rank.
Reviewing the sanitation works in the city, the commissioner explained that there are approximately 102 autos deployed in all ward secretariats for door-to-door garbage collection, where waste is separated into dry and wet waste at the source point and then transferred to the energy generation plant at Thukivaakam,
where the waste collected is recycled.
Haritha directed the officials concerned to beautify the city's key traffic islands,
prevent rubbish from being thrown into side drains, and reduce the usage of
single-use plastic goods. On the occasion, she urged people to separate their
garbage into dry and wet waste and pass it over to sanitation workers, to avoid
dumping waste and plastic bottles in the side drains, and to work with the municipal corporation to achieve the top position in Swachh Survekshan.
