Udupi goes from green to blazing hot

On Thursday the district recorded 28 Covid positive cases, including 16 children

Udupi: It is a big change in less than 20 days. Udupi has crossed the 100 mark in Covid cases. The coastal district of Udupi which was a green zone is now one of the districts which is witnessing a sharp rise in the COVID-19 graph in the state.

On Monday district recorded 32 new cases increasing the total number of positives in Udupi to 108. Of this 104 are active cases.

Udupi district has now overtaken its neighbors Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada districts in both total number as well as active cases.

Initially, when the country witnessed Covid cases in March, Udupi district had recorded only three positive cases and all had been discharged. As the district did not record any new positive cases for over one month, it succeeded in entering the green zone.

But things began changing this month when people from Maharashtra started entering the Udupi district.

The number slowly increased. One person in quarantine who suffered a heart attacked died and he was tested positive. With this the district recorded one Covid death too.The number of positive cases was slowly rising.On Thursday the district recorded 28 COVID positive cases, including 16 children.

On Sunday the district witnessed 23 positive cases including three police constables and a pregnant woman. On Monday the district witnessed an all time highest with 32 cases.

As constables tested positive in three police stations, the three stations were vacated as per SOP. They would be open 48 hours after sanitizing.
The total number of positive cases in Dakshina Kannada is 62 of which 40 are active.

Uttara Kannada has recorded 69 positive cases, the majority of which originated from Bhatkal, the active cases at present are 36.

Officials fear that the number of positive cases may see an increase in Udupi and other coastal districts in the next few days, as the results of many patients are still awaited.
