AP succeeds in saving energy, says study

VIJAYAWADA: Initiatives of the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) are yielding good results in Andhra Pradesh, a third party study by Engineering Staff College of India and Andhra University has shown. The study estimated that introduction of LED bulbs alone is saving around 73.7 units of energy per bulb annually.

EESL CEO Vishal Kapoor, interacting with state heads of the organisation, said Ujala and Grama Ujala programmes launched in AP have been a grand success, owing to cooperation extended by the state government.

Kapoor disclosed that around 2.20 crore LED bulbs have been distributed to households in Andhra Pradesh. They are saving around 1,700 million units (MUs) of energy per annum. He further said EESL has distributed 3.24 lakh energy-efficient fans in AP, which are saving 30 MUs of energy worth ₹10 crore.
The EESL CEO said to reduce energy consumption, they are planning to bolster the market with 10 million energy efficient fans across India from September 2023.

“Just as India successfully transitioned from incandescent bulbs to LEDs, it is now time to consciously shift to energy-efficient fans. All stakeholders should opt for BLDC fans, which can help realise the nation’s zero emission goals and promote sustainable and cleaner India,” Kapoor underlined. He hoped AP would lead in this initiative.
