Six Kerala tourists killed in Theni road accident
Theni: Six Kerala tourists were killed and three injured when a TNSTC bus was involved in a head-on collision with a van at Parasuramapuram near Theni on Monday evening.
The police said the tourists from Idukki district were returning home after offering prayers in the Velankanni church in Nagapattinam district. When they were near Parasuramapuram near Devadanapatti village on the National Highway, the speeding bus heading towards Madurai from Periyakulam collided with their vehicle.
Of the six killed on the spot, the police was able to identify the name of the van driver as Baby. A tourist, Saini who sustained grievous injuries, was admitted at Batalagundu government hospital for treatment.
The bus driver Kahor Basha and conductor Muthukrishnan from Tirunelveli, who also sustained injuries in the accident, were admitted in the same hospital. The Theni Superintendent of Police V Baskaran inspected the mishap spot.
The bodies of the deceased were sent to Theni government college hospital for post-mortem. “We are contacting the Kerala police to identity the details of deceased,” said a senior police officer.
