Central University of Kerala gets ready for NAAC visit

This will be the first for assessment by a UGC team in CUK after its inception in 2009

KASARGOD: The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) team of the UGC will visit the Central University of Kerala (CUK) in October last week. The university has started elaborate preparations for the visit by setting up various committees and speeding up the interviews for statutory and teaching posts. The university has also arranged a workshop for the staff ahead of the visit, which will be the first for assessment by a UGC team in CUK after its inception in 2009.

Experts from other varsities are taking classes for the staff. The reconstituted Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) will function on the campus from Friday to ensure quality academics. The university had constituted a Parents-Teachers' Association committee in April and conducted the first executive committee meeting on Tuesday. A mock visit by a team, including experts from other universities, will be arranged in September.

"The CUK has recruited 102 faculty in 21 departments. The hostels for girls and boys are ready for inauguration and a department complex will also come up in a few months. These developments will help the university to get better grading in the NAAC visit," said IQAC coordinator Dr. Mohammedunni Alias Musthafa. "Though our infrastructure is not fully developed, we could produce meritorious students who have won top ranks in the CSIR-UGC examinations. This proves that our students are capable of bringing more laurels to the varsity," he added. Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar is also likely to visit the university soon.
