M Vijayakumar to head KTDC, Koliyakode state cooperative bank
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former speaker M. Vijayakumar is all set to become chairman of Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC). The CPM state committee member who had unsuccessfully contested against K.S. Sabarinathan in the high profile Aruvikkara bypoll following the death of former speaker G. Karthekeyan, was not fielded in the recent Assembly polls. Though Mr Vijayakumar had been assisting ministers concerned on issues like Vizhinjam port, sports affairs and capital development, the party had not given him any official posting yet.
Being a senior leader, the party wants to entrust him with the responsibility of a high profile corporation. Another top leader from Thiruvananthapuram, Koliyakode Krishnan Nair who also opted out of Assembly polls because of poor health, is likely to be the president of state cooperative bank. He had held the position earlier.
Senior leaders like C.B. Chandrababu who lost the Lok Sabha polls from Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta strongman K. Ananthagopan are also being considered for posts of chairmen. Meanwhile, the CPM secretariat has decided to accommodate smaller allies. Scaria Thomas, who lost from Kaduthuruthy, is being considered for the post of chairman of Kerala State Industrial Enterprises. This post was earlier held by Muslim League strongman Mahin Haji during the UDF Government’s tenure.
