Warangal: To assess the eligibility of the 800-year-old Ramappa temple for the World Heritage Site tag, a team from UNESCO headed by Vasu Poshyanandana from Thailand, an expert from the International Council for Monuments and Structures (ICMOS) visited Mulugu district on Wednesday.
The team accompanied by joint director general of Archeological Survey of India (ASI), New Delhi Thanwiz Sharma, Dr Choodamani Nandagopal, Art Historian, UNESCO, state ASI director Dinakar Babu, superintending archaeologist of the ASI Milan Kumar Chauley, district collector C. Narayana Reddy, Prof M. Panduranga Rao from Kakatiya Heritage Trust accompanied them during the inspection.
The team documented details of the temple via photos and videos for five hours. Mr Vasu Poshyana-ndana from Thailand who is heading the team, studied the intricate details in the carvings and was mesmerised by the way the 'Nandi' was sculpted. He viewed the three outstanding universal values of the temple, including the sandbox technology used in the foundation of the temple, the low density bricks used in the shikhara and the colours in a single stone construction.
