Visakhapatnam: IMD predicts heavy rains for Andhra Pradesh till September end as the southwest monsoons prepare to withdraw from the region from the first week of October.
An IMD report on Monday said southwest Monsoon has withdrawn from parts of southwest Rajasthan against its normal date of withdrawal on September 17. The withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon is based on the following meteorological conditions-anti-cyclonic circulation at 850 hectopascal (hPa) , standard pressure at sea level, no rainfall during the last five days and if water vapour imagery indicates dry weather conditions over the region.
Another trough runs from southeast Uttar Pradesh to Telangana across Chhattisgarh and extends up to 3.1 km above mean sea level. A cyclonic circulation lies over south Chhattisgarh & neighbourhood between 4.5 & 5.8 km above mean sea level. A trough runs from cyclonic circulation over south Chhattisgarh to south Konkan between 4.5 and 5.8 km above mean sea level.
A cyclonic circulation lay over north coastal Tamil Nadu and neighbourhoods between 4.5 & 5.8 km above mean sea level.
The trough from Gangetic West Bengal to Telangana between 3.1 & 7.6 km above mean sea level across cyclonic circulation over north interior Odisha and south Chhattisgarh has become less marked.
Under the influence of the above systems, heavy rain is expected in north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema till September 29.
During the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Monday, S Kota (Vizianagaram) received 6.6 cm of rain followed by Peddapuram (Kakinada) 4.5 cm, Msulipatnam (Krishnna) 4.5 cm and Palakonda (Parvathipuiram Manyam) 3.6 cm.
