Indira Gandhi Zoo earns higher daily revenue amid visitor surge

Revenue growth attributed to a series of initiatives enhancing the overall zoo experience for the visitors, says curator

Visakhapatnam: The Indira Gandhi Zoo here has witnessed a remarkable surge in revenue during the peak season, raking in an impressive 8 lakh rupees per day.

This is due to a substantial increase in the number of visitors to the zoo over the past week. From Oct 20 to 25, as many as 30,735 visitors turned up at the zoo. This meant a record-breaking income of Rs 33,01,620.

Zoo curator Nandini Salaria attributed this growth in revenue to a series of recent initiatives. "We've been working to enhance the overall zoo experience for our visitors," Salaria told Deccan Chronicle in an interview.

She said, "We've introduced new animals to our collection, including a pair of leopards from the Tirupati Zoo and a majestic lion from the Suryabhag Zoo. We have also invested in several infrastructure improvements such as landslides, granite boards, and road extensions to make visits to the zoo more enjoyable."

“We are also laying additional stress on safety measures and amenities for the visitors,” she said.

Salaria said there are exciting plans for the development of the zoo. “We aim to introduce a diverse range of animals, including macaques, peafowls and various species of birds. These will elevate the zoo's appeal and enrich the experience for our visitors."
