Public Find Frequent Police Checks Irksome

Hyderabad: Seeing an increased presence of police personnel in their surroundings day in and day out is irking people living in Nizampet, Bachupally, Indiramma Colony and other adjoining areas. The check-ups, in the name of election related preventive measures, are causing dismay as most of the people are being put to a lot of inconvenience while going about their daily routines.

Surendra, a private employee from Nizampet, said, "It's become quite frustrating for us because it happened with me and my friends. We are being constantly checked as if we were suspects. My friend was on his way to the market and the police insisted on searching his bag, which was filled with groceries. This is taking things too far.”

Another resident, Ranjith Kumar said,” While their diligence is appreciated, they are seemingly going overboard. They check everyone, including those in autos, buses and on two-wheelers. It's too hard to digest. Why should residents, who are not involved in any suspicious activity, be put to such ordeals?”

Swati, a teacher, said that autos have been asked to stop at the entrance of Indiramma colony, which is forcing her to walk an extra mile to reach her house. “As elections draw near, the layers of security are being increased,” she said.

Balanagar DCP T. Srinivas told Deccan Chronicle "there are no exceptions for residents when it comes to security checks. We are following the rules set by the Election Commission. Moreover, the change in shifts is resulting in the reliever also conducting checks.
