Commuters irked as traffic diversions causes chaos in Jubilee Hills
Hyderabad: The trial traffic diversions at the busy junctions of Filmnagar and Jubilee Hills Road No. 45 to ease the flow of vehicles resulted in traffic reduced to a crawl. This forced many commuters to take alternative routes. The trial will last a week.
Commuters experienced difficulties navigating the diversions and making multiple U-turns to reach their destinations, further burdening them.
Employees of IT and BPO companies who use this road to get to the IT corridor reported bumper-to-bumper traffic.
Those who chose the detours were forced to travel longer distances. They also complained about the narrowness of the parallel roads into which traffic was diverted.
The traffic diversions caught commuters off guard, resulting in heavy traffic congestion on this busy road. "You're just confusing people by diverting the main route from Jubilee checkpoint to the cable bridge.
The confusion could have been avoided if traffic officials had informed the public about the diversions a week in advance," said T. Suresh, an IT professional.
V. Kartheek of Malkajgiri stated that, while they are unsure of the long-term results, the diversions have made the roads more congested.
The road from Durgam Cheruvu to Road 45 was majorly impacted because the junction was closed and traffic was diverted to roads connecting Roads 51, 54, and 36.
The road leading from Tolichowki and Khajaguda to Filmnagar junction was affected as traffic from Banjara Hills Road No 12 was diverted to take a left and a U-turn towards the Filmnagar junction and proceed towards Journalist colony and Road No. 45.
Meanwhile, traffic police said that because it is the first day, there is a lot of confusion because commuters are still unaware of the detours. "We will be releasing route specific maps to better guide them," said A.V. Ranganath, Joint Commissioner (Traffic) of Hyderabad city police.
