Buffalo Race: Kambala Held for Second Day at Palace Grounds in Bengaluru
BENGALURU: The 'Buffalo Race- Kambala' continued its run at the Palace Grounds in Bengaluru for a second day, featuring the thunderous gallop of buffaloes navigating a slush track. The event, making its debut in the city, showcased the traditional folk sport of 'Tulunadu,' spanning from Kasaragod to Maravanthe beach.
Organized as the 'Bengaluru Kambala,' the two-day event brought together around 200 pairs of buffaloes, along with their owners and jockeys. The initiative aimed to highlight the traditional folk sport and provide a platform for the larger world to witness this cultural spectacle.
The Palace Grounds, a hub for various events, transformed into a space for the cultural display of coastal Karnataka. The event organizers anticipated a significant footfall of six to eight lakh visitors over the two days.
The chief guest for the inauguration on the first day was Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who flagged off the event. Former Chief Minister Yediyurappa attended the event on its second day, adding political significance to the cultural celebration.
As part of the festivities, winners of the buffalo race were set to receive honors and valuable prizes. The first-place winner was to be awarded 16 grams of gold and Rs one lakh, the second-place winner eight grams of gold and Rs 50,000, and the third-place winner four grams of gold and Rs 25,000.
Kambala represents a 700-year-old cultural legacy that transcends commercial interests. With participants and spectators from diverse backgrounds, castes, and religions, the event symbolizes unity in diversity, making it a cultural showcase for all of Bengaluru to embrace.
