Loud music during campaigns draws widespread criticism

Hyderabad: The intrusive high-decibel DJ music, amid the frenzied election campaign, has emerged as a major discontent among residents, particularly the elders and IT professionals.

Techies working from home are finding it increasingly challenging to navigate their workdays. The disruptive nature of the loud campaign music poses a hurdle to them, which can be quite painful when they are absorbed in crucial virtual meetings.

"It's hard to focus on my work and attend meetings when the DJ music is blaring outside. It's affecting my productivity," said Anantha Chary from Yousufguda.

Similarly, aged residents, seeking peace and quiet in their surroundings, voiced their dismay.

"I appreciate the democratic process but the noise is making it difficult for me to enjoy quality sleep,” said 67-year-old Jayamma.

There are many elders with anxiety and migraine issues. Their health is getting affected by the loud music. It feels like our peaceful living is being compromised, she added.

“Will extensive use of DJ music during campaigns make any substantial difference to one’s prospects? Campaigning is essential but not at the cost of peace and well-being of the locals”, said Rajiv Laxman, a techie from SR Nagar

Madhuranagar inspector B. Srinivas said that only those taking prior permission from the department and the Election Commission are allowed to use loudspeakers during campaigns.

“Using loudspeakers without permission will attract stringent action. People violating the guidelines, including those showing disrespect to political opponents, will be severely dealt with,” he said.
