Hyderabad: A five-member family had a miraculous escape when the gas cylinder in their house leaked resulting in a fire at Hayathnagar on Saturday night. Some household articles were destroyed in the minor explosion caused by the leak.
Police said the explosion took place in the house of Shyamala Buchamma, 60, at Veerannagutta where she was staying along with son Raju, daughter-in-law Rani and their two children.
On Saturday night at around 9.30, as Rani was cooking dinner, gas leaked from the cylinder. She immediately detected the smell and informed her husband and mother-in-law.While they were checking the source of the smell they saw sparks from the cylinder and ran out of the house.
As soon as they came out the cylinder exploded and fire spread across the house damaging household articles. Police said that a one tola gold chain, a television and other household articles were destroyed in the explosion.
However, the family escaped unhurt. Police and fire tenders rushed to the spot and put out the fire. Police registered a case and started investigation.
