Thiruvananthapuram: One-way road to PMG closed
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Traffic on the one-way road connecting Plamoodu with PMG has been closed for road tarring works. Several traffic police and traffic wardens have been put in to service to regulate the smooth flow of traffic. Vehicles are being diverted through the existing one-way road from PMG to Plamoodu, which caught most motorists unaware. Public Works Department officials closed the one-way road on Wednesday which majority of the motorists and pedestrians were not made aware of, until traffic officials started diverting the traffic. Work has been started to construct a side drain at the entrance of the one-way from Plamoodu.
The entry side of the existing one-way road has become congested for the motorists. But the good news for the pedestrians is that roads officials will be coming up with a small footpath on the top of the drain on the left side of the closed road. A PWD official told DC that it would take a month for the 500 metre road to be completely tarred. "We have now asked for traffic to be diverted until May 10. But it will take a month to complete the maintenance work on the Plamoodu - PMG road. Earlier a few areas of the 500 metre road were having interlocked tiles which would now be changed to make the road a complete tarred one. The potholes in the road were already repaired", said a roads official.
Retaining wall at the entrance of the road will also be renovated which caused congestion earlier. The current width of the tarred road is approximately seven metres and there would be a small footpath which is going to a boon for the pedestrians. PWD officials have sought the service of traffic wardens along with almost a dozen traffic police officials through the entire stretch between Plamoodu - PMG Road.
