AP, TS officials' meet on division of assets inconclusive

VIJAYAWADA: Officials of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state met at AP Bhavan in New Delhi on Wednesday in the presence of resident commissioners of both states – Aditya Nath Das of AP and Gaurav Uppal of Telangana, and deliberated on the division of assets pending between the two states.

It was a closed door meeting, which ended without reaching an agreement on several contentious issues.

AP government has been insisting on implementation of recommendations made by the expert committee headed by Sheela Bhide on division of 89 out of 91 institutions placed in Scheduled IX.

There are 245 institutions valued at nearly Rs 1.42 lakh crore, which are to be divided between AP and TS as per provisions of AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.

Following the prolonged delay in division of assets and liabilities, AP government even moved the Supreme Court for equitable and expeditious division of assets and liabilities between the two states.

Sources in Telangana government disclosed that during a discussion on division of AP Bhavan in Delhi, Andhra Pradesh sought division of its assets in the ratio 58:42 based on the ratio of their populations, which the TS objected to strongly.

TS argued that the land on which AP Bhavan stands belongs to Telangana, since it had been allotted by Nizam, the ruler of erstwhile Hyderabad state. No consensus could be reached on the issue as a result.

Officials of the two states decided to hold another meeting next month, sources added.
