Chennai: Two administrators of a WhatsApp group and a group member were arrested by Kancheepuram police for allegedly posting a morphed picture of state finance minister D. Jayakumar and portraying him in an obscene manner in online message platform.
The police action was based on a complaint from another member of the group called ‘Somangalam Nanbargal group’.
The arrested were identified as Senthil Kumar, 33, his brother Ramesh, 39, who were the administrators of the group along with Gunasekaran, 27, the member who allegedly posted the ‘objectionable’ material in the group. The two brothers administrating the group manage a tea shop in Somangalam while Gunasekaran worked in a private firm in Oragadam industrial area.
According to the police, the complaint was from one Singaravelan, a resident of Manimangalam. Gunasekaran posted the objectionable morphed picture of the minister in the group on July 20 after which Singaravelan lodged a complaint with the Somangalam police station.
The police team after consulting with the office of SP, Kancheepuram arrested the three under the sections of IT act 67 and 67 (A). The three were remanded to judicial custody by a court in Sriperumbadur and lodged in Puzhal prison.
