Rain Fury in Balapur: Residents Suffer as Houses Submerged
HYDERABAD: Several houses located in Osman Nagar and Saif Nagar of Balapur on the city outskirts have become victims of the rain fury. Water overflowing from nearby Venkatapur lake submerged Osman nagar, while rain water choked Saif Colony. The flooding in Osman Nagar has also forced several residents to vacate their houses and relocate to other areas.
Syed Aamir, an AC technician from Osman Nagar, told Deccan Chronicle that every time there is flow into the Venkatapur lake, it overflows and inundates colonies. This time, it entered tens of houses, also making it difficult for the residents to even step out of their homes. “ We have been appealing for some permanent measures to prevent such situations, but all our appeals have fallen on deaf ears,” he said.
There are several families who are vacating houses in the affected areas and moving out to other parts of the city, he added.
Manzoor Ahmed, a teacher from the neighboring Saif Colony said that in the year 2020, they were in a similar situation. Several public representatives, officers, leaders from various political parties visited them and assured to work out a permanent solution. “ But nothing has changed and we continue to suffer like this every year,” he said.
According to locals, they have not received any assistance from the government so far and they have urged the Government to mitigate the problem at the earliest.
