Waltair railway division commissions ABS system

Visakhapatnam: In a stride towards modernising railway operations, the Waltair Division has successfully commissioned an advanced Automatic Block Signalling (ABS) System between Alamanda (ALM), Korukonda (KUK), and Vizianagaram (VZM) railway sections. This technological upgrade marks a pivotal moment in the division's efforts to enhance safety and operational efficiency and accommodate more train movements.

Replacing the antiquated Panel Interlocking System, the newly operational ABS system encompasses a 17-km stretch featuring one UP line, one DOWN line and a Middle line with two block sections. Boasting 40 automatic signals, the ABS system leverages electronic interlocking system modifications at Alamanda, Korukonda, and Vizianagaram Route Relay Interlocking (RRI) points.

The primary function of the ABS system revolves around automated train movement control and management. This cutting-edge technology not only bolsters transportation efficiency but also expedites train operations within the designated area.

Saurabh Prasad, the Divisional Railway Manager, lauded the diligent team behind this achievement for their early completion of the project. He announced the Waltair Division's strategic plans to continue upgrading its network with Automatic Block Signalling Systems. This initiative seeks to facilitate smoother train operations in congested sections, elevating overall safety standards.

The implementation of the ABS system within the Waltair Division constitutes a noteworthy stride towards revolutionizing railway operations. By harnessing automation to augment safety, operational efficiency, and capacity, the division sets a precedent for modernized railway systems. As the region looks ahead, this technological leap promises to usher in a new era of railway excellence.
