1,000-year-old inscriptions restored to Siva temple in Vijayawada

The sorry state of these historic inscriptions was taken to the notice of the temple authorities by archaeologists.

Vijayawada: The temple authorities of Bhramaramba Malleswara Swamy Devasthanam near Ratham centre in the I Town area restored 1,000-year-old inscriptions, belonging to the 10th century, after years of utter negligence.
These inscriptions were found on five rock pillars dumped in garbage. The pillars had been whitewashed, rendering the inscriptions illegible.

The sorry state of these historic inscriptions was taken to the notice of the temple authorities by archaeologists. CEO of Cultural Centre, Vijayawada and Amaravati E. Siva Nagireddy, along with president, Vijayawada Buddha Vihara, Golla Narayanarao, found these ancient pillars and approached the temple authorities. They explained them the importance of the inscriptions.

Realising the historic significance of the inscriptions, the temple authorities put in efforts to restore them. The paint on the pillars was removed with sand-blasting method.

Temple EO K.N.V.D.V. Prasad told Deccan Chronicle that funds for Krishna Pushkaralu have been used to restore the historical inscriptions.
