No non-academic duties for teachers: CBSE
Thiruvananthapuram: The CBSE has issued guidelines to schools asking not to engage teachers on duties other than academic activities. The guidelines issued by CBSE secretary Joseph Emmanuel make it clear that the primary function of the teaching professional is to facilitate the educational process of the children.
The circular pointed out that the Section 27 of Chapter VI of the Right to Education Act-2009 had mandated that teachers shall not be deployed for any non-educational purposes other than the decennial population census, disaster relief duties or duties relating to elections to the local authority or state legislature or parliament.
The schools affiliated to CBSE shall ensure that the teachers will not be engaged in activities other than those related to direct teaching, professional upgrade, examination and evaluation. The circular wanted the schools to appoint separately trained staff for activities of ministerial nature, transport or canteen or similar related tasks. The provision in the circular relating to the manpower on the bus has also been changed. Each bus should have at least one lady attendant or lady guard.
